Review: It may take two or three warm look in Beetlejuice. There is a kooky, silly mood and rhythm alternately easy, lazy and frenetic. Some of the attractive New England die and return to their beloved home as a ghost, determined to cleanse the area of âânew tenants horrendous. Perhaps the most pleasant and exciting performance ever by Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder and Sylvia Sidney also very interesting. New pair of New York who will take over the house (Jeffrey Jones and Catherine OHara) arent either written or thought out as the other characters, and some confusion, dry ice track their comic take some seconds to reach you. Of course, there's Michael Keaton, wild comic as Betelgeuse. I remember hear comments back in 1988 that Keaton was not around enough to make an important picture, but that's only if you watch the movie for a quick quips and sight-gag. Keaton was really cute, but he's very proud, and I felt there was just enough for him to satisfy - that really is not the story anyway, it belongs to Baldwin and Davis, Betelgeuse is used as horny, funny vulgar. Director Tim Burton very careful not to overload the film with obscenity, he was surprised to be careful in preparing this story, and he works his magic in suspicious circumstances: comic fantasy about people who end up celebrating the life die. *** 1/2 out of **** |
